==Without the out of bound clip==
The trick to this fight is to get a 1 cycle kill on octulent. It can be done by hitting him once with checkers and twice with marbles or once with marbles and twice with checkers. You wanna wait until the third bubble as been spit out to do that else the tentacles he raise in the air will block you and he will leave before 3 hits. A safer strat is to jump on the third bubble while holding jump, then throw at the apex of the jump (while being on the left side of octulent) and glide with marbles until the shell hit.

This boss features a long cutscene followed by a quick kill. It's possible to skip the cutscene and boss fight, which could save around 8 seconds for a level run (which doesn't have to watch the cutscene) or nearly 30 seconds in a full game run. However "Octulent Skip" is extremely difficult and likely won't be implemented into full game runs for a long time.

Optimal (no skip)

This video was created on a completed file, so the cutscene that is normally encountered during a run does not appear.

  • The key to getting the quick kill is to use the shell to quickly score 3 hits on Octulent before he has time to submerge. Typically the shell will hit twice and Marbles will stomp once, but it's also possible to stomp twice and have the shell hit only once.
  • Bringing the bucket as close as possible to Octulent before attacking saves time at the end of the level, since you need to move right to reach the goal.
  • Bouncing off the bubble and flapping before stomping makes the quick kill far more consistent. It's possible to save about 0.8-1.0 seconds by attacking without the bounce and flap, but it's inconsistent.

Octulent Skip

This video demonstrates the skip, for anyone who is curious. In a level run it is also possible to clip through the wooden bridge using a lower corner clip, but this is not possible in full game due to the cutscene.

After clipping, you must swim under the cutscene triggers, offscreen, without touching the kill plane. Here is an image of the stage with the cutscene triggers you need to avoid (the arrows).
