The normal exit in this stage takes you to 4-6 Rusty Reservoir, while the secret exit takes you to 4-7 Smoky Squall. Both stages can be completed in similar amounts of time (about 30 seconds), so the secret exit saves time here, in Vexatious Vents, by exiting the level early.

Optimal

Be careful not to jump too high through the vertical corridor at 0:03.5 or you will take damage on the dragonfly.
It's possible to wrap around from the left side to the right side of the screen at 0:07 during the triple jump, or bounce off the dragonflies. Since you need to wait for the second bee circling the cannon to move anyways, this triple jump doesn't have to be optimized. Even if you can climb faster with enemy bounces, they each delay the bees by 3 freeze frames, so it's better not to bounce.
At 0:10.5 if you position a dropdash immediately before reaching the first cannon you can squeeze through the gap and skip it, saving a bit over 1 second. If you miss the squeeze just wait briefly for the bees to move and fire the cannon to the right to screen wrap.

Any 19 or better is good on this level.

-Mostly a lot of quadjump and throw. Grab the rope quickly at the start and piggyback as soon as you reach the ledge. After the quad jump do a quick piggyback while going to the left then jump and throw to land as close as possible to the platform, piggyback and jump on the ennemy to gain enought height to reach the top. Quickly jump twice toward the left and piggy back jump to the left and throw into a drop dash to scroll from the left back to the right of the screen.
-The dropdash before the canon section is a bit precise but save a few seconds over the easier route.
