From Windswept Speedrun

This is a difficult stage featuring global cycles and tough platforming. If one thing goes wrong, it can mess up the route in the rest of the stage. Fortunately, a death reset can be used after the checkpoint to reset the cycle.

Optimal - no death reset

  • The platforming at the beginning doesn't really matter since you'll need to wait for the toxic water cycle to go down anyways at 0:10. Feel free to grab either bubble.
  • It's best not to rush to the croc head at 0:11 since this will spawn in the Taptaps immediately, bringing them closer to you and making the bounce off them less feasible. Waiting for the Cawbie to pass and going behind it is a good way to stall a little so the Taptaps are in the correct position.
  • Overcharging the spin-dash doesn't really do anything, but it's important to set it up correctly. Stand towards the left side of the croc head's eye and hold attack without pressing right. This should set you up to have a charged spin-dash on the right side of the platform without falling in. Rolling through the taptaps and rising platform is OK too, but slightly slower.
  • Using a midair spin-dash at 0:18 off the platform is a helpful way to cross under the P shooters and reach the first dragonfly.
  • Hold right and jump for the entire dragonfly bounce sequence. Time small glides to make it between the enemies above and the dragonflies.
  • Bouncing off Nippa generates no freeze frames.
  • The downwards-firing cannonball at 0:27 is a menace; if you're too slow, it becomes impossible to avoid. If you slow down too much earlier in the level, death reset at the checkpoint to reset the global cycle.
  • By 0:31 you will be experiencing some camera drift and the taptap will be in a different position than if you death warp. On this route, land on the lower platform and jump over it.
  • The glide between the dragonfly, cannonball and spiked Pip wheel at 0:35.8 is very precise. Feel free to slow down, or damage boost on the first spiked Pip wheel (grabbing the immediate bubble) instead if this gap seems too difficult.

Death reset

Death resetting at the checkpoint sacrifices about 2 seconds to reset the grape juice cycle. The jump under the menacing cannonball is much easier, and some of the platforming afterwards changes. If you don't play the first half of the level close to perfectly, it's best to hit quick retry the moment you touch the checkpoint.

  • You can high bounce off the P shooter at 0:29 and not need to glide as much to reach the next platform. Don't bounce too high or the cannonball can still hit you.
  • The P shooter at 0:31 will be lower, so you will need to bounce off both P shooters.
  • Since the Camera Drift will be reset, the taptap at 0:33.2 will spawn in earlier and you can land next to it and roll through it. You can also attempt jumping over it as shown in the video above.

Checkers

Checkers is quite strong in this level, only being a couple seconds slower than Marbles theoretically. If you enter the stage as solo Marbles from Prickly Peril, you can play the beginning as Marbles and swap to Checkers at the waiting point at 0:10.
